Creative Gifts by Bruce Ingram, aims to promote artistic expression and creativity. The galleries showcases a diverse range of artworks that inspire and engage visitors.
Bruce Ingram’s journey begins on a tobacco farm in Finklea, South Carolina, where stories from his great-grandfather — once enslaved — shaped his imagination. Raised by his Uncle John and Aunt Ida Mae, Bruce grew up surrounded by rich oral traditions and spiritual wisdom. These early stories became the heartbeat of his art, symbolized by “the eyes of the Lord,” a recurring theme reminding him of faith, heritage, and watchful grace.
Bruce’s creativity blossomed early, earning him the title of “Most Creative” at Green Sea Floyd High School. His artistic path led him to New Jersey, where he studied with artists from Greenwich Village and developed his own unique vision. Bruce transforms old tin, wood, and forgotten objects into vibrant folk art—seeing beauty and stories in what others might overlook. His work reflects history, faith, and the spirit of his African roots.
A storyteller and artist, Bruce brings history to life through his “Luke” re-enactments and community outreach. His art has been showcased at the Gertrude Herbert Institute of Art and the Arts and Heritage Center of North Augusta. As founder and curator of the Horry County African American Museum and Ingram Art Gallery, he continues to honor the past through painted gourds, pottery, masks, and sculpture. Bruce draws daily inspiration from the ultimate artist—God—whose creation fuels his work and vision.
